Phil & Teds Sport Buggy lives up to it’s name!

So, Amy and I were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new Phil & Teds Sport Buggy and today it finally arrived!  We talked to so many parents about the new model and read on paper about the new features but I was excited to try them out for myself.   I thought the e3 was great….the Sport Buggy is even better!

The best new feature is the adjustable handlebar.  It’s about time Phil & Teds made this a feature on their strollers!  Now the Sport Buggy is easy to adjust for very tall and very short parents with the touch of a button on each side of the handlebar.  This was a much needed improvement and I found it worked great and was super easy to do.

Coming in a close second was the change in the doubles kit to add a recline feature.  This was always a minor complaint from parents that the second child couldn’t take a nap in the doubles seat.  Phil & Teds listened and added a zipper recline on the second seat.  I tried it myself and it maked about a four to five inch recline.  Enough to help out a sleeping toddler but not too much as to interfere with a parent pushing the stroller.  I think this was an excellent improvement.

The other improvements I saw were the quick release wheels (again, Phil & Teds followed in the footsteps of some other stroller companies to add this nice feature) and the improved five point harness.  The straps are more easily adjustable and it makes it easier to harness in a smaller child.  The bumper bar has been slightly redesigned and has a more curved fit.  Also, the canopy now has a peek-a-boo window which is also a nice new feature.

And for the parents who are wondering, the Sport Buggy is only compatible with the Sport Buggy raincover and suncover and the e3 still is only compatible with the e3 raincover and suncover.   All of the other accessories are are interchangeable.  All of the colors remain the same (orange, red, black, charcoal, lime and navy) except Sand which was discontinued and the fun addition of Camo Blue.

When I pulled out the Camo Blue to check it out, my three year old son immediately said “Wow!” and my five year old daughter old said, “Cool stroller, Mom” (like she was a teenager or something….)  I figured that was a good sign!

So the final verdict is hats off to Phil & Teds! Two thumbs up from StrollerMama on the new Phil & Teds Sport Buggy!

Thanks for the helpful review. I’ve been looking everywhere to find out how much of a recline the new zipper recline offered and you’re the first place I’ve been able to find it! Thanks again!

    Hi there
Your review is great. I was just wondering if you knew whether the doubles kit for the sport is compatible with the E3?
    Best regards
    Sarah

Hi- The Doubles kit for the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy is not compatible with the older e3 model. In fact, the rain covers, sun/bug covers and the travel bags are also model specific. Hope that helps! Amy

  3. Anne Says:

Thanks for the review. Do you know how high the handles are when fully extended? I have a 6′9′’ husband and am desperate to find something that will be somewhat comfortable for him to push!
    Thanks,
    Anne

A very clear and concise review without hundreds of adverts to keep distracting you, well done.

I like the features offered by the new sport but also like some of the offers available on the E3. The none compatibility of the double kit concerns me though. Do you have any idea how much longer the e3 doubles kits will be available for? I was planning on buying a single buggy and then upgrading when or as I need to depending on when we have another child.

    Thanks

    Will

Hi, Will.  We are not sure how long the e3 accessories (including doubles kit) will continue to be available. If you are thinking of purchasing the stroller for the future, I would suggest getting the Sport Buggy for that reason. Thanks, Erika

  5. Anna Says:

Thank you for taking the time to do the review. One question, I was not able to find an answer anywhere is:
If I use a carseat for a newborn, can a toddler ride in the back in the double’s seat at the same time?
Your site was the only one offering a video on the travel system adjustment. Thank you for that!
If you’d be able to answer my question, I would very much appreciate it!
    Thanks!
    Anna

Hi, Anna and thanks for posting.  No, you cannot use an infant seat in the Sport Buggy while having a toddler ride in the back.  There just is not enough room for both.  The Sport Buggy will only work with an infant seat as a single stroller.  Let us know if you have any more questions.  Thanks, Anna!  Erika

  6. Monica Says:

    Hi,
We just purchased the Sport and I was wondering if there is another car seat adapter that would be compatible…. we have an infant seat that is part of a travel systam and it snaps securely onto the car seat bar that fit in the stroller…. Is there anything that will fit the phil and teds that will allow us to put our existing car seat bar in as well for added security? I hope that makes sense!! Let me know if you have any ideas….. Aslo we want to get a little wheely board thing to attach so that my Son can stand and ride on the back… any suggestions?

    Thanks!
    Monica

Hi Monica! Phil & Teds makes an infant seat adapter bar for the Sport Buggy that would work. They also are coming out with some new adapter bars that work with the Graco and Peg infant seats that should be available late July. The Ride-on board that works best with the Sport Buggy is the Kiddie Board Maxi. It attached to the back axle of the stroller and is great for toddlers! Erika

Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am thinking of ordering the buggy online, but I can’t seem to find the maximum length of the area where an infant can lie completely flat. I am wondering because we are going on a 3 month vacation with our child when he is 6 months old, and I would like to know if he will be able to lie flat in it.

    Thanks!
    Rasmus from Denmark

  8. Jo Beasley Says:

Hi, you mentioned earlier that the Kiddie Board Maxi is the best buggy board to fit the new Phil & Teds, does it fit the older model too?
    Many thanks

  9. Maren Says:

Thanks for the great review, would you happen to know if the infant seat adapter will work with a Combi Connection car seat? Thanks!-Maren Hi Maren- Thanks for your blog!  Unfortunately, the Phil & Teds travel system is not compatible with the Combi infant seat.  Sorry!  Take care-Erika

  10. Jenny Says:

What a great review! Thank you! I am interested in finding out about the jogger with the doubles seat attached. When taking the first child out and leaving a toddler in the back seat- is the stroller secure? I read a review that said the stroller may tip over- is this something I should worry about? Hi Jenny- Thanks for the nice words!  The manufacturer recommends that you not have a child in the doubles kit without another child in the main seat.  However, as long as they are within the recommended weight limit (33 lbs. in the back and 50 lbs. in the front), the stroller should be fine when taking the kids out.  I would definitely not push the stroller that way but it should be fine (and it was with my kids for the endless times we used it) loading and unloading everyone.  Thanks- Erika

  11. Karen Says:

Thanks for the great review of the Phil & Ted’s sport. Do you know if you can attach the car seat to the buggy and have a toddler in the doubles seat at the same time? I have gotten conflicting information from people.  Hi Karen- No, you cannot have a toddler in the doubles kit and use the travel system to attach and infant seat to the stroller at the same time.  There is not room for both.  Hope that helps- Erika

  12. Corey Says:

Hi! My toddler is very tall. (36 inches) Is there a height limit for the front seat? Would he be comfortable in this stroller, without anywhere to put his feet? Thanks.  Hi Corey- The Phil & Teds Sport Buggy is one of the best options for tall children as it has a very high seatback to canopy area.  It is about 27 inches from the seat itself to the canopy so it should be fine for your tall toddler.  My five year old still fits nicely in the Phil & Teds.  I’m not sure exactly what you mean about your child not having anywhere to put their feet so if you want to clarify that, I’d be happy to address that, too.  Thanks- Erika

  13. Natalie Says:

I’m trying to decide between the Phil and Ted’s Sport and the Graco Quattro Tour stroller. Have you had any experience with the Graco and what would you recommend. Hi Natalie- I have no personal experience with Graco strollers (other than many of our parents complaining about how much they dislike their Gracos which is why they came looking for more upscale strollers with us).  The Phil & Teds Sport is a huge favorite of our parents (and me as a user myself!)  Let us know if you have more questions! Thanks- Erika

  14. suzanne goin Says:

    hi
i keep hearing wonderful things about the p and t sport buggy but a couple of places have mentioned that it’s NOT for twins (which i have)….i am not a stroller genius (and you are) so can you tell me if that is true? and if so what you would recommend instead….someone told me the jane powertwin is great…thanks suzanne.

Hi Suzanne- The Phil & Teds Sport Buggy works nicely with twins, but not newborn twins.  The problem is that the back seat does not recline enough for a newborn and the stroller is designed to be used in newborn/toddler mode or toddler/toddler mode.  When using the P&T with a newborn, they are laying flat in the main seat and the toddler seat is up front with the older child.  If you have two newborn twins, the stroller won’t be appropriate.  If they are a bit older (with neck control and big enough to sit in the back seat), it would work just fine.

The Jane Powertwin is also an excellent choice for twins.  You are going to run into the same problem, though, with the front seat not having enough of an recline for a newborn.  What we suggest to many of our parents of twins is to get a double snap and go (to use the the two infant seats) to get through the first 3-4 months and then invest in a good stroller like the Jane or P&T to use once the babies are a bit bigger.  If you don’t want to wait, you might want to consider a SBS like the Valco Trimode Twin or Mountain Buggy Urban Double that is suitable for twins from birth.  Feel free to email us or give us a call if you have more questions!  Thanks, Suzanne!  Best, Erika

  15. Hi Says:

    Hi,

I really like the look of the green Phil and Ted’s sport buggy but wondering if anyone knows how stain resistant it is because I plan on using it for a long time my kids are 19 months and 4 months. Also can you buy replacement covers? Thanks, eileen

Hi Eileen- The Lime Sport Buggy is a good, bright lime green.  Not as stain proof as charcoal or black but not as bad as some of our lighter colored strollers.  I think you’ll be fine as long as you take care of stains and spills quickly after they happen and do a good job of spot cleaning.  We do not sell replacement covers but you could always check with the distributor- their website is www.regallager.com. Thanks- Erika

  16. MARLA Says:

I am seriously considering the Phil and Ted sport buggy with the doubles seat, but have heard almost nothing on whether or not it’ll push through a little snow or slush as in winter there are sections of sidewalk not shoveled. Not a lot of snow but will the front wheel get stuch on 2 or 3 inches of snow? Also, what about sun protection? Even for the child in front, is the canopy enough on a really sunny day? I really would not want to bother getting the full mesh sun protection screen thing. I am thinking if the canopy in front doesn’t extend far enough, then to get a clip on stroller shade–$14 or $16 from Babies r us. I’m wondering if that would work. Lastly, is there anywhere in Canada as I live in Edmonton Alberta where I can actually SEE one of these? I don’t like the idea of ordering something I haven’t even seen or tried out. If I order online and don’t end up wanting it , I will be out the shipping and handling and still have to pay to send it back. I would rather not do that. So can anyone help me? Thanks! Hi Marla- I haven’t used my Phil & Teds in the snow so I really can’t speak to that issue personally.  I have found the sun canopy has been fine but you could add a Protect-a-Bub sunshade if you don’t want to go with the mesh cover.  Lastly, regarding Canadian brick and mortar retailers, the only one I personally know of is Baby on the Hip in Toronto.  You might want to contact them to see if they could help you out.  I know that they are a Phil & Teds retailer and they are super nice!  Hope that helps- Erika

  17. Donna Says:

When my husband and I checked out the Sport model we loved everything about it but had one concern about the sun canopy which seemed to provide less coverage that the Baby jogger.

Has anyone found the sun cover to be insufficient? (We are expecting our first so we really don’t know how much of an issue this may be…)

    Thanks,Donna

Hi Donna-  The sun canopy on the Sport Buggy is decent but not as generous as some others.  However, you could get the Phil & Teds Sun Cover which is very popular with our parents or go with a Protect-a-Bub sunshade if you like that style better.  Either one would add sun protection if you feel you need more.  Hope that helps- Erika

  18. Viviana Says:

What infant car system is the P & T stroller combatible with? We sell travel systems for the Graco infant seats and the Peg Perego infant seats that work with the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy.  Hope that helps- Erika

  19. Valerie Says:

    Hi,
I’m considering this stroller for a newborn and 2 year old… I’m wondering if it’s possible to SEE the newborn in the back with the toddler in the front. Looks like it might be difficult to check on the newborn… Also, do you know what the stroller weighs with the doubles kit? Thanks! Hi Valerie- Yes, you can definitely see the newborn in the back while the toddler rides up front.  The main seat is reclined flat for the baby and you can see the baby while you are pushing the stroller.  Erika

  20. Nikki Keggin Says:

    Hi

The posts say that the Sport Double kit is not compatible with the e3, as do all other websites. Can you elaborate on why this is the case, as the Sport double kit fitted my e3 stoller when I tried it out at a baby store? What am I missing? Thanks Hi Nikki- According to the manufacturer, the Sport Buggy doubles kit is not compatible with the e3 stroller because they haven’t been safety tested together (so we can’t recommend it either).  But, I can tell you that we have heard from other moms like you that it will fit…..Hope that helps- Erika

  21. Mya Says:

Hello! I have recently purchased a Phil & Ted’s sport stroller. I have a older graco ‘quattro’ travel system car seat and base from my first born; however, our strolller is no longer functional, hence the upgrade to a Phil & Ted’s stroller. My question to you is this: Is the Phil & Ted car seat adapter which I see advertised on your site workable for the SPORT stroller or is it only compatible with the former E3 model? Reading your questions and answers above makes it sound as though there was a recent upgrade to this adapter? Where is this new product and how can I buy one!? Thanks very much for your assistance.

Hi Mya- The travel system for the Graco car seats and Peg car seats are a fairly new product.  The old travel system was a universal adapter- not specific to the brand of car seat- also a bit trickier to use.  We do not carry that anymore.  The Graco adapter bar is available for purchase now on our website and it is $29.95- we have it in stock.

All of the accessories that we carry now are for the Sport Buggy, not the e3, since the e3 has been discontinued.  If you have more questions, please let me know!  Thanks- Erika

  22. kay Says:

hi, i was just woundering if you can attach a buggy board to the phil and ted sport, if so which one, let me know thanks-kay Hi Kay-  The Kiddy Board Maxi is compatible with the Phil & Teds Sport.  Just remember, it only works with the Phil & Teds Sport when the doubles kit is NOT attached in the back (there is not enough room for the second seat and the ride on board).  Hope that helps- Erika

  23. kay Says:

i have been doing some more research on this buggy. am i right in reading that you can put a car seat on the top and still have the toddler underneath in the second seat.let me know thanks Hi Kay-  Actually, that is incorrect.  You cannot use an infant seat in the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy while using it in doubles mode.  You can use the adapter bar with an infant seat if you are using the buggy as a single stroller, but not as a double.  There is not enough room on the bottom for another rider if you need to use an infant seat because the main seat has to be reclined so much.  If you have any other questions, please let me know!  Thanks- Erika

  24. Jessica Says:

I was wondering how this stroller would be with two heavy kids. My boys are 30 and 40 pounds and I was wondering how it would push with 2 kids of that size in it. Thanks! Hi Jessica-  The stroller will push fine.  It is designed to handle those weights with ease.  Your real issue is that the doubles kit in the back has a weight limit of 33 lbs. and you are getting pretty close to that which will limit the longevity of use.  If you have more questions, please let me know.  Thanks- Erika

  25. Kate Says:

What a wonderful source for information on the P&T Buggy. I would like to know if it is compatible with the Chicco Keyfit infant seat. The design is very similar to the Peg and I am hoping that it will work. I know it might not have been tested by the manufacturer but I would like to know if it has been tried. Thanks! Hi Kate- Unfortunately, I do not have an answer to your question.  We don’t have the Chicco Keyfit so I haven’t tried it and I haven’t heard back from any of our other customers that have tried it.  Plus, even if it fit the Peg bar, keep in mind that it wouldn’t be safety tested for the Chicco (which you already mentioned) so we couldn’t recommend it for liability reasons.  Sorry I don’t have a better answer for you! Erika

  26. Anne Says:

My friend has the car seat adaptor for the E3 model, but I have the Sport model. Do you happen to know if the car seat is compatible with both models?

The review here and all of the posts have been very helpful.  Thanks.

Hi Anne-  I just confirmed with Regal Lager, the distributor, that the car seat adapter bars are compatible with both models.  Hope that helps- Erika

  27. Cheryl Says:

I just learned that some colors have been discontinued. I especially wanted to get the orange one. Is there a way to find out if additional colors are coming out for 2008? Thanks. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl- The orange and charcoal Sport Buggies are being discontinued.  We are sold out of orange and only have a few charcoal left.  There are no new colors being introduced or changed other than those two colors anytime soon according to the distributor.  Hope that helps- Erika

  28. Zoe Says:

hi - When you say that the kiddy board maxi fits the buggy do you mean the lascals buggy board maxi or lascals kiddy board?  Cheers

Hi Zoe- The Kiddy Board Maxi (made by Lascal) is the board that is compatible with the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy.  Hope that helps- Erika

  29. Colleen Says:

Hi- I am really interested in the phili and teds sport but I was wondering about the running option. I understand it is not advertised as a jogging stroller. I have a petite one year old and I jog slow…do you think this is feesible in this stroller?

Hi Colleen- Thanks for your post.  The Phil & Teds Sport Buggy is really not considered a jogging stroller.  Here is the text directly from the distributor’s website about jogging with the Sport Buggy:

Can I run with your buggy?
Occasionally yes, however the buggy has not been designed as a full-time jogger.”

That is the recommendation from Regal Lager who distributes the Sport Buggy.  If you are going to be doing much jogging, even a slow jog, I would not recommend the Phil & Teds.  You might want to consider the Bob Revolution.  It is a great stroller!  Hope that helps- Erika

  30. Renie Donovan Says:

Does anyone know if the car seat adapter can be used with the Phil and Ted E3 twin side by side stroller? I have a new baby and a 15 month old. Can I purchase the adapter and put the infant carrier in the stroller next to my son? Hi Renie- The Phil & Teds e3 Twin stroller is not compatible with ANY infant seats and the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy only works with an infant seat (with adapter bar) if used as a single stroller.  Both strollers are suitable from birth with a completely flat recline.  If you are looking for a side-by-side all terrain stroller that can take an infant seat on one side, I’d take a look at the Valco Trimode Twin- it’s a great stroller!  Hope that helps- Erika

  31. Jessica Says:

Hi, i called a local edmonton store E children before i seen this site of yours and they advised that you could use a infant carrier with a child in the second seat below. Is that not true?  Hi Jessica- The store you spoke with is wrong.  The Phil & Teds stroller cannot be used in doubles mode with an infant carrier and a second rider.  The adapter bar only works when the stroller is used as a single stroller.  If you use the infant carrier in the main seat, you need to recline the seat almost all of the way which doesn’t not leave any room for a rider in the back.  Hope this helps- Erika

  32. Kimm Says:

This was a great review. I haven’t read much about how practical the storage is with the new Sport Buggy. I am going to use this primarily for mall trips with a 3 year old and new born. How accessible is the basket when you have the bassinet in use? I don’t really want the side bags sticking out and then you have to take them on and off when loading the stroller from the car. Also, where does everyone put their diaper bag? I have a Jeep stroller that I used with my 1st baby and it was so nice the diaper bag would hang right in front of me on the handle bars. Kimm

Hi Kimm-  Thanks for your kind words about my review!  Unfortunately, storage is not the strong feature of the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy.  It is really best known for its innovative design and ability to handle two children in a more compact way.  If you need storage, I really recommend using the pannier bags.  I use them on mine and I don’t find them to be inconvenient at all.  You can fold the stroller with the bags on so it is not a pain.  It is difficult to access the basket when using the stroller in newborn/toddler mode and the basket is basically unusable in toddler/toddler mode so the pannier bags are a must.  You can’t hang a diaper bag off the handle because it would bop someone in the head.  If storage is your first priority, you may want to look into a side-by-side double stroller that gives you a big basket below.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks- Erika

  33. Kimm Says:

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it! I think we are going to go ahead and get the stroller and I’ll just have to keep my shopping to a minimum.

  34. Zoe Says:

Hi - what a great site for finding out info on the Phil and Teds strollers! Answered lots of questions that I have had. I have twins that have just turned one year and was dismayed by the recomendations that these strollers are not for twins but now as I thought they appear to be fine untill ove of them reaches 33 pounds - at which time I think I could stop using the jump seat and get a kiddie board and tey could take turns riding??? Thanks again, I have been desperate to find something that will fit into tiny boutique stores.

Hi Zoe- I’m so glad you found our blog helpful!  I think the Phil & Teds stroller would be perfect for your children.  The Phil & Teds strollers aren’t good for newborn twins because the second seat doesn’t have enough of a recline but it is perfect for twins that are your childrens’ age.  You are also right that once they hit 33 lbs., you can add the Kiddy board to the back.  I’m glad we could help and please let us know if you have any other questions.  Thanks- Erika

  35. Jeff Says:

This is a great string. Thanks so much for maintaining it! With a big 20-month old and a newborn, we love our new Sport Double. The brakes didn’t seem to work at first until we realized I put the wheels on backwards (not so smart). The only real issue we have with the stroller now is the height of the handle bar. At 6′1′’, it’s a little low for me — if I’m missing a way to extend the height, I’d love to know. Also, we’d appreciate thoughts on the utility of the hangbag, travel case, and any suggestions for a cup holder that affixes to the stroller. Many thanks!

Hi Jeff-  I did the same thing putting my wheels on backwards when we got the Sport Buggy! :)   The only way you can adjust the height is by pushing in the buttons on the side and moving the handlebar up and down (which I’m sure you already figured out).  In terms of accessories, for a cup holder, you could do (1) the Phil & Teds hangbag, (2) the Valco Cup Holder, (3) the Carry You Torino or (4) the Bob Single Console.  They all work.  It just depends on what you are looking for.   If you are going to fly with the stroller, I would consider getting the travel bag to protect your investment.  Hope that helps- Erika

  36. Lisa Says:

hello.  Great review, I have been using my phil 7 ted for 5 months and I truely love it. Just wandered is it possible to buy replacement covers and if so where from thanks.  Hi Lisa-  We don’t sell replacement covers but you could check with the U.S. distributor, Regal Lager.  Their website is www.regallager.com.  Hope that helps- Erika

  37. Tara Says:

Your website has been extremely helpful - especially for me as a first time mom - thank you! I have one question - I am looking for a stroller that I can use to power walk on uneven sidewalks and possibly dirt trails but also one that I can shop with - would Phil&Teds sport work in this capacity? I am also looking at the BOB - but I like that if we have a 2nd baby we can add the attachment. Thanks for your help!

Hi Tara-  Thanks for your post.  The Phil & Teds Sport would work for basic outdoor use but the Bob would definitely be a smoother ride.  The Bob has shocks and suspensions which makes it better suited for outdoor use.  What I generally recommend for parents is while it is good to think ahead (thinking of having a second child down the road), it is best to focus on the features you need most now for the first child.  Even with the best intentions of planning ahead, you never know what life will bring and the world of strollers changes so much all of the time.  If you are going to be doing alot of outdoor power walking on bumpy terrain, I think the Bob is a better choice.  And it is still light enough to use indoors.  The most compact model is the Bob Revolution 12″ Aluminum Wheel which, I think, would be your best choice.   Let me know if you have more questions!  Thanks- Erika

  38. Kris Says:

    Hi,

This is such a great thread…some of the best info I have found!

We have a Phil & Teds e3, bought in 2006. I still don’t know the difference between all the models, including ours! Our handle bar height can be changed, if that tells anything.

I was wondering about a few things…1) Can we use the reclining double seat with our model? Right now we have the nonreclining doubles kit. 2) Is there a standing board that will work with ours, with the second seat attached? The Buggy Board Maxi or the Kiddie Board? We need something for 3 kids but don’t want to buy a new triple stroller. 3) If there is an infant car seat in the top (with or without the car seat adaptor) can the second seat be used?

    Thank you SO much!

Hi Kris-  Thanks for your post!  The distributor does not recommend using the reclining Sport Buggy doubles kit with the e3 (since they haven’t been safety tested on each other). But, I can tell you that we do have parents that have the e3 and have gone ahead and purchased the reclining Sport Buggy doubles kit for their stroller and we’ve heard from them that it has worked for them.

The Kiddy Board Maxi works with the Phil & Teds but not with the doubles kit attached- there is not enough room for a rider in the back and it needs to attach to the rear axle.  Also, you cannot use an infant seat in the stroller with the second seat attached.  Since you need to recline the main seat to fit the infant seat in, there is not enough room for a rider in the back.

I also made the move from two to three and I switched from my Phil & Teds to my Valco Trimode Twin with toddler seat.  You could also do the Valco Trimode Single with toddler seat and hitchhiker.  Neither combination will take an infant seat with three riders but they are both suitable from birth.  Hope that helps- Erika

  39. Sandy Says:

We received our new Sport Buggy from you and so far love it. I know your mentioned the sun shade above, but I have further questions re: sun protection for the rear seat. I don’t want the full mesh cover. On a NZ website I saw a backseat sun shade from protect a bub, but I don’t see it on its website. What do you recommend? Hi Sandy-  Great timing for your post!  We actually just got the Backseat Tandem sunshades from Protect-a-Bub in stock!  They are perfect and custom-made for the Phil & Teds strollers.  We have them in stock now!  Hope that helps- Erika

  40. Lisa Says:

Hi,we just purchased the sport buggy but we are not sure if the infant should be buckled in while in the reclining position? We are not sure if the bukles would fit the infant lying down. Thanks

Hi Lisa-  The buckles can be used with an infant in the flat position but they will probably be a little big.   You could also get the cocoon if you wanted a more cozy fit for your infant.  Hope that helps- Erika

  41. Greta Says:

What are the dimensions of Phil&Teds Sport Buggy when folded up? Thanks for your help.

Hi Greta-  The Sport Buggy is about 36 inches long from the front to the handlebar, with the handle bar being straight out.  It’s about 24 inches wide with the wheels left on (widest point), and it is about 16 inches at the highest point, which is where the front wheel would anchor to the frame but 14 inches to the tops of the back wheels.  Hope that helps- Erika

  42. Precious Says:

Great information! I purchased the P and T Sport Buggy however I am unsure of the newborn toddler mode. Does the newborn always have to lie flat? At what stage or age can the newborn transition to the buggy seat? Can you explain the cocoon?

Hi Precious- The newborn always must lie flat in newborn/toddler mode.  The cocoon is a soft bassinet that fits in the seat where the newborn lies flat.  It just provides a more enclosed and plush area for a newborn.

When you can switch to toddler/toddler mode really depends on your baby and how much neck and head control they have to sit upright.  In general, I would say that people usually switch over at around 4-5 months.  Hope that helps- Erika

Does anyone know where i can access reviews on the Smart Buggy?

Hi Susan-  We don’t carry the Smart Buggy so I’m afraid we can’t help you out!  Erika

  44. Miriam Says:

    Hi,

We just bought the Phil and Teds Sport. We have 2 questions–when setting up the 2nd seat up front (for the sleepnig newborn and toddler combo), what is the “retaining strap” for? On page 11 of the P&T Survival Guide, the directions say “Never uses baby and toddler buggy withough the retaining strap”–am I supposed to loop this strap on to something for safety?

Second, we find the brakes extremely stiff to use–you practically need to use a steel-toed boot to use them–is this normal? The other day a piece of plastic chipped off the circular tube that holds the brake bar in the wheel–is this a defect?

    Thanks very much!

Hi Miriam- Thanks for your post.  I don’t have the Sport Buggy manual in front of me so I can’t specifically answer your question about the retaining strap.   I think it may be for when you fold the stroller with the doubles kit up front but I would just give a call to Regal Lager (Phil & Teds’ U.S. distributor) to find out for sure.  They have amazing customer service.  Their number is (800) 593-5522 EST.

Regarding the stiff brake, that is actually normal.  It will loosen up a bit with use.  It is my understanding that it is like that for some sort of safety standard.  I would also mention to the Regal Lager people your issue with the chipped plastic.  They would be the ones best able to handle that issue.  Good luck!  Erika

We’re pretty positive we’re buying the Sport. One thing we didn’t like was the sunshade and the lack of one for the back. I see there’s the P&T Single & Double Sun shade and the the Protect a Bub Backseat Tandem Sunshade which looks awesome! Would you recommend getting the P&T Single for the front and P.A.B. Tandem for the back? Or some other option I haven’t mentioned? Just wondering what you’d suggest that would be the easiest to use/configure. We’ll mostly be using the Sport in Double Mode… Thanks! : )

  46. Valerie Says:

Oh! Also, how do you use the cocoon with the sport? Is it for when the baby is lying flat? Does it strap in? Can you use with doubles kit? Is it useful? Can’t find much info on it…

  47. Assaf Says:

Hi Erika - great review, and fabulous information in all the replies to the comments! Hi Assaf- Thanks for your post.  I’ll go ahead and answer your questions in the body of your post below:

I still have some issues that I need information for:

    1) A question from the wife:When only the newborn is riding there seems that there’s no way to be facing the baby - now this is an impractical question but how can I compensate for the lack of eye to eye contact with the newborn?  This is not an impractical question.  The strollers that you are considering are all forward facing- they don’t have a reversible seat.  As you know, there are different features that different strollers have and the P&T does not have a reversible seat.  There are not many double that do- although some of the side-by-sides (Valco Trimode Twin and Mountain Buggy Urban Double) take an infant seat on one side and the baby would face you.

    2) A question from me: I am above 6′, so the max height of the handle will draw me close to the back of the stroller when pushing it, from the pictures it seems like it will cause me to constantly kick the back of the rear toddler while I’m walking. Is that right? Is there a workaround?  We have heard from some taller parents that their stride is interrupted by the doubles kit in the back.  My suggestion is to try to find one in person to test drive to see if it will be an issue for you.

    3) I think I will need the mesh the most on sunny and therefore warm days, so how ventilated is the mesh, and can the toddler see through it adequately? Is there a way to leave the sides of the mesh open for side views for the toddler?  The mesh is ventilated but, personally, my toddlers would never ride with it over them- way too claustrophopic.  We suggest the Protect-a-Bub sunshades for use with the Sport Buggy.  You get the backseat tandem sunshade for the rear seat and the original single sunshade for the front seat.  The combination is great with the Phil & Teds strollers.

    4) When using the side bags, does the overall width cause the stroller to become hard to navigate in urban areas/shopping malls etc?  I use the pannier bags with my Phil & Ted stroller and I have never had any issue with width.

    5) We wanted to replace our old and useless Peg Venezia and buy one maneuverable lightweight stroller and a second all-terrain stroller for easiest of hiking here and there, one of them had to be infant ready. Twin strollers are too wide for our usage, so we thought about the BabyJogger mini for the lightweight and BOB for the all terrain - but then we had no newborn support. Is this P&T stroller our Jack of all trades, or will it be too much of a compromise, not really a BOB and not really a lightweight like the mini?  The BOB Revolution Duallie is a wonderful stroller but bigger than the P&T and also not suitable from birth.  I don’t personally think the Sport Buggy is too heavy- I am a huge fan.  We don’t carry the BJ Mini but I haven’t heard glowing reviews.  I think P&T is a great compromise- it is hugely popular with our parents and my kids adore riding in it!  Hope that helps- Erika

Sorry for the many questions - hope you can assist!

  48. Valerie Says:

Which Protect A Bub suncover fits the Sport best? The Protect a Bub compact or single?

  49. Junko Says:

    Hi there,
I bought sport buggy for my bubba, and now hoping to get the 2nd seat for the 2nd one to come. I heard that reclining seat for sport buggy is good, but only for very small bubbas, as the bar gets in the way, and instead maybe the e3 double seat would be better, as it takes older bubbas. I am thinking of purchasing e3 double seat off a person I know for my sport buggy, but would that be compatible??
Your comment would be much appreciated!

Hi there- According to the distributor, the e3 and Sport Buggy strollers and doubles kits are not interchangable but I know many moms out there who have done it!  What I would suggest is trying the e3 doubles kit on your Sport Buggy before you buy (if you can) to see if it fits and you like how it works.  That would be the best way to tell.  Hope that helps- Erika

I do light jogging and am considering this stroller and was curious if I should totally rule it out if I do like to jog.  Hi Margaret- The Phil & Teds strollers are not designed for jogging.  If it were up to me, I would rule it out.  If you are looking for a stroller that will perform well for jogging, I would take a look at the Bob strollers.  Hope that helps- Erika

  51. diego Says:

thank you so much for all the information. We bought an E3 orange buggy in 2006 and now with a second baby on the way we’d like to purchase the doubles kit. But we hit a wall. Not only can we not find it anywhere, but apparently it has been discontinued. Can you please advise? Thanks

Hi Diego- I would contact Regal Lager (Phil & Teds U.S. distributor) to see if they can help you out.  Their number is (800) 593-5522 and they are open 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 a.m. EST.  Hope that helps- Erika

  52. Jen Says:

I have a Chicco Key Fit infant car seat and I’m wondering if either of the infant car seat adapter kits will work.   Hi Jennifer-  The infant seat   adapters that we sell for the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy only work with the Graco or Peg infant seats.  Hope that helps- Erika

  53. Wendy Says:

Hi, i love the stroller and was wondering where i can purchase it?

Hi Wendy-  How about www.StrollerMama.com :)

  54. Katherine Says:

    Hi,

Can you run/jog with the Phil and Teds Sport stroller with the double attachment? It looks like with the attachment it would be difficult.

I think it is so awesome you respond to everyone’s comments. Thanks!

Hi Katie-  Sorry for the delay in getting back to your questions (we were on a family trip to Disney so I am a little behind!)  We do not recommend running/jogging with Sport Buggy in doubles mode.  You are correct that the doubles kit makes the stride a little more difficult.  Plus, it is not really a jogging stoller.  If you want to run/jog with two kids, I’d take a look at the Bob Revolution Duallie.  Hope that helps- Erika

  55. Bonnie Says:

Thank you so much for the info! I almost purchased the sport today with the purpose of using the infant seat adaptor with my son in the back-the store I went to did not say it was an issue. I am so glad I found your site before wasting a lot of money! Now I am back to square one-what is the most compact and lightweight double stroller I can get that you can use an infant seat with? Thanks so much for the inforamtion!

Hi Bonnie-  I’m glad our blog got the correct information to you!  The store that told you that you could use an infant seat on top with your toddler below was wrong!  Have you taken a look at the Valco Twin Latitude?  It is a great hybrid double stroller- a cross between and umbrella and an all-terrain and it can take an infant seat on one side.  Check it out!  Erika

  56. Jenny Says:

I am wondering if this stroller can be folded with the toddler seat attached in either position or does it need to be removed in order to fold it down? Also, can you tell me how much the stroller weighs with the double kit? Thank you so much for this review…it has been very helpful in my quest for a practical double stroller!

Hi Jenny- Thanks for your post!  The Sport Buggy can be folded with both seats attached in newborn/toddler mode but not in toddler/toddler mode (doubles seat in the back).  It weighs about 25 lbs. with the doubles kit attached.  If you have other questions, just let us know! Erika

  57. Laurie Says:

I’ve read on the site that you can’t put a car seat on the top and still have the toddler underneath in the second seat but that is incorrect. My friend has the Phil & Ted’s sport. Her 3 1/2 year old son fit in the backseat while she used the car seat on the top. It was a little tight but he had room and it worked out well.

Hi Laurie-  I just wanted to post your comment and add my response.  Regal Lager, who distributes the Phil & Teds strollers, does NOT recommend ever putting the heavier child in the back seat because it is a safety hazard.  The heavier child is always supposed to sit in the front seat.  The stroller is designed to carry the heavier weight in the main seat for stability purposes and if a heavier child is in the back, it could cause the stroller to tip and injure the children.  Perhaps your friend was unaware of the weight recommendations for the seat but I just wanted to remind our parents about this potential safety hazard.  Thanks- Erika

  58. Courtney Says:

I have the phil and ted sport with the chicco keyfit and it works great with the second seat underneath. the car seat fits with the seat completely upright resting the carseat on the bar. they advised getting a carseat strap and looking it on. It is more secure than having the infant seat. I guess you would say it is not correct because it hasnt been formally “tested” but it works wonders for us and safety wise I feel very comfortable with my infant in on top and infant on bottom.

**Just a reminder from StrollerMama that Regal Lager does not recommend ever using an infant seat on top with the doubles kit below.  The heavier child must always ride in the main seat or there is a chance of the stroller tipping and the children being injured.  Also, the Phil & Teds strollers currently do not have an infant seat adapter for the Chicco infant seat (although there is one in the works) and it has not been safety tested**

  59. Andrea Says:

    Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out here! I have a 14 month old son and just found out I’m pregnant with twins!! We have a dog and walk 1-2 hrs a day so I need to find a stroller that will fit our needs. I do not want a triple stroller as my son won’t want to be in it for long. Any thoughts on my buying the Phil & Ted’s Twin stroller and whether or not the double kit (seat below) could attach to it giving my son a seat when he wants it? HELP!

    Andrea

Hi Andrea- Congrats on your growing family!  You cannot use a third seat with the Phil & Teds strollers.  But, you can use a third seat with the Valco Trimode Twin.  Check out the Valco Trimode Twin with toddler seat.  It is a great side-by-side double that can take a toddler seat up front for a third rider.  The main seats are suitable from birth so it is perfect for families expecting twins that already have a toddler.  I used it with my three kids and it is terrific.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks- Erika

  60. Emily Says:

We “test drove” the Sport Buggy in the store with our 20 month old twins. I absolutely loved it, but have two concerns. First, the little one riding in the rear seat attachment kept putting his fingers between the wheel guard and the tire…no injuries, just worrisome especially if we were going faster out and about town. My second concern is that the same little one in the rear seat seemed to have his head resting right on the bar that frames the rear seat. He’s not tall for his age. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced these two concerns. I am also wondering if these concerns have been addressed with newer models. Thank you so much for such an imformative review!

Hi Emily- Congratulations on finding time to post on the blog with 20 month old twins! :)   First, regarding fingers in the wheels- all of the Phil & Teds buggies now have the wheel guards for this precise issue.  If you have an over-curious toddler and the wheel guards don’t stop his fingers from wandering in there, the buggy might not be the right fit for you.  Second, make sure that when you use the doubles kit in the back that it is not in the reclined position.  It sounds like it might be by the way you are describing it.  I would check that out.  If you have more questions, please let me know!  Thanks- Erika
